Calculate Your Express Entry CRS Points as per New November 19, 2016 Version

The entire game of obtaining the permanent residency of Canada revolves around on how much point you can obtain under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).

The more points you are able to acquire under the CRS, the better will be your chance of being accepted for receiving the Invitation to Apply (ITA). More than half of the battle to become permanent resident of Canada is won as and when you obtain the ITA.

From November 19, 2016, a new form of Comprehensive Ranking System has come into force. From now on, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will be using the revised system to give score to applicants.

Let us take a look at some of the parameters on which an applicant will be judged.

The first factor that is seen is your age and second is the highest level of education that you have completed till now.

The third factor is whether you have studied in Canada or not. As per the new regulations, additional points will be given to applicants who have obtained education from a Canadian university or institute. 15 to 30 points will be allocated to such candidates.

The forth factors that is looked into is your language proficiency. Canada immigration authorities are interested in knowing as to how proficient you are in English and French.

The fifth factor that will be looked into is your work experience.

The Canadian National Occupation Classification (NOC) defines the work experience obtained by you:

  • Managerial jobs – NOC Skill Type 0
  • Professional jobs – NOC Skill Type A
  • Technical jobs and Skilled Trades – NOC Skill Type B

The government of Canada is interested in knowing the years of full time work experience you have in the past 10 years outside of Canada. A full time work experience is defined as 30 hours per week of work or equivalent part time.

The immigration authorities of Canada also wish to know if you have acquired any work experience inside Canada or not. The number of years of full time work experience you have obtained in the past 10 years will be counted towards giving you points on the CRS.
