John McCallum Says Canada Wants to Boost Immigration

The Liberal Government of Canada has planned to revise the immigration targets in the month of November. The immigration minister of Canada has stated that many people have come up to him with the request to increase the number of immigrants that are planned to be taken this year.

McCallum was speaking to reporters on the issue after a meeting of the cabinet on the Parliament Hill. During his speech he summarized the outcome of his cross country consultation on immigration in Canada.

He has been getting lot of inputs and nearly all of them, numbering in thousands have shown their support towards bringing in more immigrants in the country. The reasons that were cited for increasing the number of immigrants include job shortages and demography. It is only till November that a proposal will be finalized on the matter.

2016 immigration plan of Canada is to bring in around three hundred, thousand immigrants in this year. To meet this target around 162,000 economic immigrants, 57,000 refugees and protected persons, and around 80,000 family reunification visas will be issued.

The level of immigration in Canada has been almost constant in the past two decades. Annual acceptance of immigrants represented around .7% of the total population. In the year 2014, around 260,000 immigrants were accepted which was almost 0.7% of the total population.

All this is positive news for aspiring immigrants who want to come and settle in Canada. Immigrants have always played an important role in the growth of Canada and they continue to do so. In return Canada has provided these immigrants with better living and working standard and overall a better quality of life.

The government is also planning to make changes in the rules related to temporary foreign workers. A report is expected to be released as early as next week by the House of Commons. These recommendations have been finalized after days of hearing earlier this year.
